The last of the WVs, WV52, is pictured at Barnacullia on route 44b from Glencullen on April 28th 2012. Operating between Dundrum Luas station and Ballybrack in Glencullen, the 44b is a local Monday to Friday service operating at peak times only. This is the only Dublin Bus route which can not operate double deck vehicles, mainly due to the narrow roads, low trees and sharp bends. The 44B is also the highest route on the network, climbing above the city giving beautiful views of Dublin for passengers. At the time this photo was taken, there was still a service on route 44b to the city centre on Saturday mornings. The destination may display Eden Quay, but the terminus was actually on Townsend Street. The Eden Quay oddity was something which also existed on Route 44. The 44b is operated by the final few WV, Wrights Volvo B6BLE midibus. As we write this, there are only 6 WVs remaining in service with Dublin Bus and they will most likely be replaced next year. These low floor vehicles are the perfect size for a route of this nature. A trip on the 44b is a must for any bus enthusiast.
