TOMATO: BRANDYWINE YELLOW (SOLANUM LYCOPERSICUM) PLANT SIZE: VINE FRUIT SIZE: LARGE COLOUR: YELLOW CULINARY APPLICATIONS: FRESH   An American Heirloom, in fact one of the oldest varieties to have been cultivated there. It produces large beefsteak fruits which can vary in shape from year to year, sometimes they grow with scalloped ridges and other times with a smooth golden surface. The yellow fruits possess a full bodied and sweet flavour. WHEN TO PLANT Cool Climate: AUG, SEP, OCT, NOV, (INSIDE) Plant out after risk of frost when soil temperature reaches 16ºC+. Temperate: SEP-DEC Transplant or direct sow outside only when soil temperatures reach 16ºC+. Sub - Tropical: (FROST FREE ZONES) MAR, APR, MAY, JUN, JUL, AUG, SEP, (Can be grown year-round but risk of disease increases when sown in hotter months.) Tropical: Late April to the beginning of July.   SOIL PREFERENCES PH 5.8-7 Well-drained rich soil. GROWING TIPS Raise in seedling tray, sow 6mm deep and keep moist.  Remove bottom leaves when planting and plant deeply to promote strong growth. Plant 45cm apart.
